AN ANALYSIS ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF CONVENTION AND EXHIBITION TOURISM IN SHENZHEN |

Abstract Convention and exhibition tourism has become an important direction and a newly developing form of the comprehensive tourism. It is a special tourism with a very strong specialty usually in large scale and probably has a far reaching effect on local economy than anything else. It could not only boost the economic development in urban area but also build the significant image of tourism so as to raise the domestic and international recognition of the city. The author, through an in depth investigation, finds out that Shenzhen boasts a series of favorable conditions in landscape resource, prime location,facilities of convention and exhibition, experience of holding an exhibition. Such as:1) excellent city image and strong city attraction and its vicinity to Hongkong, one of the most influential international financial centers; 2)prime geographical location and highly developed regional economy; 3)convenient internal and external traffic and communication; 4)highly qualified facilities of convention and exhibition and the hospitality industry; 5)beautiful natural resource and hospitable atmosphere; 6)perfect facilities of sightseeing and leisure and recreation. This article identifies the existing problems as well, such as:1) The hardware facilities of convention and exhibition in Shenzhen are difficult to meet to the requirement of the development of convention and exhibition; 2) deficient market competition mechanism; 3) imperfect general infrastructure service; 4) paying more attention to exhibition and less to convention. In addition, through the study of the developing status quo of the industry of convention and exhibition in Shenzhen, suggestions are provided towards the elimination of these constraints on how to solve these problems:1) establishing the administrative organization of convention and exhibition tourism and forming market-oriented mechanism; 2) integrating the decision making and construction of convention and exhibition center with general urban planning; 3) pursuing a greater convention and exhibition market in international competition;4)strengthening the cooperation with Hongkong and Guangzhou and promoting the competition of convention and exhibition tourism in Shenzhen.
